This is the development website of The Hibernofiles, an Irish American heritage archiving, documentation and narration project, which is currently being located at the Addlestone Library of the College of Charleston in South Carolina.

The current files contain material gathered as part of a number of projects over the past fifteen years with the common theme of researching the role of Irish immigrants and their descendants in all regions of the United States, but particularly in geographical areas (including the southern states) where this role has not been widely investigated or promoted, and professional and vocational areas that have not been widely studied for the Irish contribution – architecture, engineering, enterprise, law, medicine and science among them.

The goal of the Hibernofiles project is to subject the existing material to professional archival assessment and supervision, and to develop programs and projects which will appeal to not only the immediate academic enrolment in the location where the material is housed, but also to a wider audience of both academic and independent researchers, as well as to writers, editors and story-tellers.

The writing, editing and narration of individual histories, using live performance and print and audiovisual media, is an important part of this program.
