The Mid-South Social and Cultural History Centre (in process of formation and development) is dedicated to the researching and promotion of local history, with a special emphasis on social and cultural history as it was and is experienced through the lives of people in the mid-south area of Ireland – principally the counties of Offaly, Laois, Kilkenny and the environs of Waterford City, with outreach too to parts of Carlow and Tipperary.

The centre will focus its activity on the creation of collections that reflect those lives; the organisation of events and programmes that encourage learning and documentation in this area; and the publication (mainly in digital formats) and promotion (for both print and digital media) of studies, profiles and biographies.

A more detailed statement of purpose and activities is under preparation and will be posted here in due course. However, some of the typical programmes and projects already mounted by those involved in the creation of the centre are included in this website as an indication of direction.
