Down through the years of Maynooth College's history, members of the professorial and administrative staff who have spent the greater part of their careers at the college have been buried in locations other than the college cemetery. Some were interred before the existence of the cemetery; some were appointed to pastoral positions and were buried in the locations where they had ministered as bishops or priests; some were buried in their native places.

In BURIED ELSEWHERE 1 we list those who were interred elsewhere before the existence of the college cemetery, together with a few notable cases from the first century of the college's existence who were buried in other locations.  Those interred where they had ministered as bishops ot priests can be regarded as having had a dimension to their lives other than their college careers, and many are documented locally in diocesan and community records. Those who have died in more recent times and who are buried in other locations are documented in a second section under the heading BURIED ELSEWHERE II.
