Lists

This section contains draft lists of those buried in the college cemetery and is based on a master list which will be made available, when completed, in the college library and archives.

The lists are based on investigation of actual gravestones, and on a listing made in 1907 and inscribed in Latin on stone panels on either side of the entrance arch to the cemetery. A list, in English, also appeared in Archbishop John Healy's Centenary History of Maynooth College, published in 1895.

To date the lists only include those buried in the cemetery from its opening in 1817 to 1879 (students to 1865-6). The other main block of graves, immediately to the left of the entrance, containing burials from 1882 to 1994, is currently being documented, as is the block of student graves to the right hand side of the main path, where burials took place from 1867 to 1944. A small modern section, encompassing modern interments, as well as burials of domestic and infirmary staff, will also be documented.
