The third phase of the project required significant resources in order to repair and enhance the pathways and grass margins in the cemetery, which had become degraded through two hundred years of use, mainly by visitors who wished to see the last resting place of significant figures in the history of Maynooth College, and also by those who wished to savour the tranquillity of the place with its tree-lined walk and atmospheric stonework.

This final phase was begun in August 2017 and included the installation of kerbing, the repair of green surfaces undertaken, and the replacement of broken or uneven path surfaces. The entrance to the cemetery is also being worked on, with a rehabilitation of the rockery area that supported the large cross, which was discovered to be in a dangerous condition.

As with previous phases, the contribution from Class of 1963-66-70 funds will be made for application to the overall costs of the project and to specific initiatives identified by the college to improve presentation and information, including the enhancement of inscriptions on the grave markers of students buried in the cemetery between 1866 and 1942.

Photographs of the finished work will be included here at the earliest opportunity.
